Pogo Connect Support Dropped

Robb / Dec 05, 2013 02:25PM EST

I received this message today when I tried to connect my Pogo Connect to my iPad (4Gen):
"Pogo Connect support will return in a future Paper release."?

Pressure support is important to me and having it pulled out without explanation is frustrating.

Hi Robb,

We apologize for the inconvenience. Some work had to be done to part of Paper that affected Pogo Connect. We expect to restore support in the next update, which we are working on now. We included a warning in the update notes, but we understand that it’s easy to miss those.

Same here... Flakey as the connect is ( on 4th replacement now) it seems to have been kicked into touch by development of "pencil"....

Is pencil pressure sensitive? Better made ? Should I spend £50 to find out?:)

Pencil is not pressure sensitive in the way that Pogo is. Also, relatedly, Pogo does not work at all on iPad Air.

I'm using Pogo connect and haven't upgraded to the latest version of paper. I've got the pencil but can't get it to connect w the app. Are you forcing me to upgrade to the latest v of Paper to try pencil and temporary lose support of pogo?

I'm really annoyed of the way you dropped the Pogo support in the latest version. The communication via the release notes is a little weak. I don't think that many people read these. But anyway, i've been a software developer for 15 sears myself, and i don't understand why it has to be necessary to drop the support. Software can be written an a way that it sorts out which device is present and use the corresponding functions.

I bought the Pogo just a few weks ago because you recommendet it on your site. Now it's not even mentioned and you advertise your own stylus, which is not even available anywhere. For me it sems you want to push your stylus and for that you annoy us with dropping the support for the old one. Why didn't you just finish all the work on the softwares stylus part and release it then? Noone would have been pissed and it would not make such a bad picture for you. The way you did this update it seems you just want to make some extra dollars with selling your stylus (which in rality is nearly not available) and therfore you lock out the other possibilities.

I want the Pogo support back soon, and i want functions like blending with the finger, smart coupling and palm detection also, because i can't see a reason why these things shouldnt work with any other stylus than yours.

Hi Lev and Gerald,

It wasn’t a choice we were glad to make. Fortunately it should be restored very soon. The work to restore Pogo Support has already been finished and will be in the next update. We just need to finish a few more bug fixes and then we’ll be ready to ship the release. I just want to reassure you that we’ve already managed to restore Pogo support, so you will not have to wait long.

Lev, yes you will need to update to the most recent version of Paper to use Pencil. You could do that now and regain Pogo support very soon, or you could wait for the update.

Gerald, blending with the finger and palm detection require distinguishing between the finger and the stylus. Pencil was built to be able to do this, but Pogo Connect was not. We might be able to find a way to make blend more widely available, but I just wanted to explain why it’s not possible to do it the same way for Pogo as it is for Pencil. Likewise for smart pairing. We designed and built Pencil specifically to be able to do this. Pogo Connect was not designed or built for it.

Sorry, but there was NO sign in the german release note about stopping the Pogo support. Bad surprise and stupidly I was updating during a project that I started with the Pogo. I would have never updated if I were told that Pogo is out. Disappointing.

Dalas, do you know if the Connect is going to work correctly on the Air? Pogo support says they have released a new SDK that's supposed to work on Air but their responses aren't entirely clear to me.

Thanks,

R

Michael, Pogo Support will be back very soon. We’ve completed the work to restore support and are testing the release for stability before sending it to Apple.

Ron, the last I heard was that support on the iPad Air was impossible. If they’ve found a way to fix it, I haven’t heard about that yet.

I can understand that you had to suspend Pogo for one version or so to get Pencil sorted out. But what I disliked was that there was no mention of this in the release notes for the current version! You did say it in the previous version, and warned people not to upgrade - but1.5.0 had nothing about the Pogo Suspension in it (I'm looking at it right now - I didn't update).

Jay, we apologize for the confusion. How do you think it could have been better communicated? I don’t think a global notification in the app would have been appropriate, because Pogo Connect is not widely used with Paper. What would be a better way to reach people?

Ron,

TenOne have updated their iPad app and state that with this, iPad Air is at least partially supported. You have to open that app in addition to Paper for the compatibility to work. I'm not sure what partial support means though - but it sounds like there's hope ;-)

is there any way to restore an old version of paper?

FiftyThree Employee dalas verdugo / Dec 17, 2013 12:57AM EST

I think it’s very complicated. The new version is being reviewed by Apple and will be out soon.

Please download the new update for restored Pogo Connect support. Sorry for the lapse in support.

Note: Pogo Connect and Pencil cannot be connected at the same time.

Does the newest update allow for pogo connect to be used with an iPad 2 via the Pogo Bridge?

No changes were made to that. We never got that working to our satisfaction.

I just bought a new iPad Mini Retina, and found that the pressure sensitivity of Pogo Connect does not work. I sold my iPad Mini (no retina) because 53 told me that it was not supported due to the lack of retina screen. Now I sold it and bought the new one with Retina, and it still does not work.

What is going one? What is the problem?

Hi Carton,

I replied to your post on the other thread.

Carton, I did the same thing. Bought a Mini retina so that I could use Pencil and now Pogo has no touch sensitivity and drops connection.

This not a answer, but a comment that I feel I must state in relationship to Support at 53.com. Since. I have downloaded 53 and considering purchasing a wide variety of tools, the thing that is very interesting to me is the willingness & honest answers provided by the "Support Team". It is rare when a company admits that they dropped the ball, and are working to correct their mistake.
If we all had the guts to admit an error, more people would take more chances,as it is stated in the book, NO EXCUSE LEADERSHIP,lessons from the U.S. Army's Elite Rangers,You must never give in if you fail, but use your
experiences to succeed. Ranger's lead by Example.
So Team 53, you take pride in your concept.
